Embarking on the journey above the monastery, visitors are greeted by a forest adorned with ancient giants—among them, the venerable Kefallinian Fir (Abies Cephalonica) and the resilient Black Pine (Pinus Nigra). Along this path lies Europe's sole cedar forest (Juniperus drupacea), sprawling across 740 acres, designated as a cherished natural monument and integrated into the Natura 2000 network.
Descending towards the village, travellers trace the meandering course of the Tanos river. Nestled on the northern slopes of Mount Parnon, at an elevation of 952 m, lies the timeless village of Agios Petros. This traditional village has an endless supply of natural products and abundant water sources, known as ‘piges’. Upon arriving to Agios Petros, hikers will have the opportunity, if they wish, to enjoy a local traditional lunch from one of the few taverns.

Perched along the northern border of Argolis and Kynouria, Mount Zavitsa commands attention with its rugged cliffs cascading towards the tranquil waters of the Argolic Gulf, while soaring to an impressive altitude of 974 m. Its storied past dates back to ancient times, evidenced by the remnants of an ancient path that once linked Argolis to Arcadia.
Known as the Anigraia Odos, this historic route was first chronicled by the esteemed traveler and geographer, Pausanias, during the 2nd century AD. Described in his comprehensive work on ancient Greece, the path served as a vital link between Argolis and ancient Thyrea, clinging precariously to the coastline in many sections. Remarkably, it remained the sole coastal route connecting these regions until 1953.
Embarking on a journey along the ancient road, travellers are treated to sweeping panoramas of the Argolic Gulf, with the cityscapes of Argos and Nafplion gracing the horizon. From the tranquil haven of Arnomousga on the slopes of Parnonas, situated at an elevation of 1420 meters, begins a captivating journey toward the summit of Megali Tourla, towering at 1935 m. Winding through dense forests of black pine and fir, the path leads to a serene plateau nestled amidst subalpine landscapes just shy of the peak. It is here, amidst the rejuvenating embrace of spring, that one can discover the Malevos tea, celebrated for its medicinal properties.
At this juncture, approximately 250 m below the summit, the group may choose to ascend further, guided by the collective spirit and weather conditions. Upon reaching the pinnacle, clear skies unveil a breathtaking panorama encompassing the Peloponnese, the Argolic Gulf and the majestic Mitroos Pelagos.
Following our descent back to the plateau, a moment of reprieve allows for reflection before we embark on our return journey, carrying with us memories of the awe-inspiring vistas and the invigorating ascent of Parnonas.
